Andriy Schevchenko is one of the top strikers in the world football. Shevchenko plays for English club Chelsea FC and Ukraine national team. In 2004, Shevchenko won the European player of the year award in 2004.Shevchenko captained Ukraine to quarterfinal stage at 2006 FIFA world cup in Germany. Shevchenko is the second all time highest goal scorer for Milan, with 175 goals from 324 matches. Shevchenko is the all time top scorer for Ukraine, with 41 goals from 87 matches. Shevchenko is fourth in the list of top goal scores in European club competitions with a tally of 61 goals.

Andriy Mykolayovych Shevchenko was born on 29th September 1976 at Yahotyn in old Soviet Union. In 1986, scouts of Dynamo Kyiv spotted Shevchenko during a youth tournament. During 1992/2993 season, he played for Dyanmo-2 and scored 12 goals. Shevchenko became part of Dynamo Kiev’s senior team in 1993/1994 season. He won five consecutive Ukrainian Premier League with Dynamo Kyiv from 1995-1999.1n 1997/1998 season Shevchenko helped Dynamo Kyiv to shock European giants Barcelona, in a UEFA Champions league match, by scoring a hat trick. He scored 23 goals during 1998/1999 Ukrainian Premier league and was the top scorer. Shevchenko won the UEFA Champions League best forward award. He won Ukrainian cup in 1996, 1998 and 1999 with Dynamo Kyiv. He won CIS states cup in 1996, 1997 and 1998 with dynamo. Shevchenko scored 94 goals for Dynamo in 166 matches.

He moved to Italy and joined European giants AC Milan on a record transfer deal worth 26 million pounds, in 1999.He scored 24 goals for Milan in 32 matches in Serie A that season and was the top scorer. Shevchenko scored 51 goals during the next two seasons. Shevchenko won Copa Italia and Champions league with AC Milan, in 2003.Shevchenko scored the winning penalty in champions’ league final. He won the UEFA super cup as well that year. Shevchenko scored 24 goals to help Milan to win the Italian Serie A, in 2003/2004 season. He was the top scorer in the Serie A that season .Shevchenko scored all the four goals during a Champions league match against Fenerbahce in 2005.Milan lost the classic Champions league final in penalties and Shevchenko missed the last penalty. Shevchenko scored 26 goals during 2004/2005 season. He helped Milan to reach champions league semi-final in 2006 .He was the top scorer in UEFA Champions league in 2005/2006 season.

In 2006, Shevchenko moved to English Premier League club Chelsea FC in a transfer deal worth £30.8 million. Shevchenko scored goal in his debut match for Chelsea while playing against Liverpool. With Chelsea, he won FA Cup and League cup in 2007.However his contribution was only 14 goals in 51 matches in his first season for Chelsea. During 2007/2008 season, Shevchenko scored only eight goals in 24 matches. After two disappointing seasons, Chelsea sent Shevchenko on loan to his former club A.C. Milan. He scored only two goals in 26 matches. Shevchenko is currently with Chelsea FC and he won world football challenge a pre-season tournament with them.

Shevchenko is a Ukraine legend. Shevchenko has represented Ukraine under-18 as well as under-21 teams. He scored 11 goals for them. Shevchenko made his International debut for Ukraine in 1994/1995 season. His first goal for them was against Turkey in 1996.Even though Ukraine failed to qualify for 2002 world cup Shevchenko scored 10 goals during qualifiers. He was the captain of Ukraine team, which qualified for world cup for the first time. He led Ukraine to the quarterfinals of 2006 world cup. Even though he scored five goals in Euro 2008 qualification matches, Ukraine did not qualify for the tournament. Shevchenko has scored four goals for Ukraine in 2010 world cup qualification matches.
