Eidur Gudjohnsen is the greatest footballer to emerge from Iceland. He proved his mettle in tough European leagues with top clubs. Gudjohnsen’s work rate and versatility allows him to be effective as a striker or attacking midfielder. Gudjohnsen is good in air and has quick footwork. He has amazing passing range, good ball control, first touch, aswell as great vision. He is the all-time top scorer of Iceland.
Gudjohnsen started his professional football career with Urvalsdeild club Valur Reykjavik, in 1994.He played 17 matches for them and scored seven goals. He joined Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in 1995.Though, PSV won Dutch cup, Dutch super cup, and Dutch Eredivise during his stint with them, injuries kept away from the action, for most part. 1n 2000, English Premier League club Chelsea signed him Gudjohnsen in a transfer deal worth 4 million. Gudjohnsen won the FA community shield straightaway, in 2000.In his first season he scored 13 goals. During 2001/2002 season, he scored 23 goals and played a role in Chelsea’s runner up finish in FA cup. Due to Gudjohnsen’s versatility, Manager Mourinho deployed him at various positions in midfield, after the arrival of high profile strikers at Chelsea.
