Antonio Augusto Ribeiro Res Junior was born at Recife in Brazil on 30th January 1975. However, people across the world know him as Juninho or Juninho Pernambucano. Juninho is an attacking midfielder. He has the ability to produce effective passes for his teammates and he assists in many goals. Juninho is one among the all time best free kick takers in the world. He was an integral member of Olympique Lyon, which won seven consecutive French Ligue 1 championships. He represented Brazil until 2006 in international matches. Juninho is currently playing for Qatar club, Al Gharafa.
Juninho started his football journey with Brazilian Serie- A club Sport Recife, as youth player. Juninho was initially a futsal player. In 1993, he joined Recife’s senior team. He helped Recife to win Copa do Nordeste aswell as Compeonato Pernambucano, in 1994.He played 24 matches and scored 2 goals in two seasons for Recife. Juninho joined another Brazilian side Vasco da Gama, in 1995.Juninho helped Vasco da Gama to win Brazilian championship in 1997 aswell as 2000.He helped them to win Rio de Janeiro State Championship aswell as Copa Libertadores in 1998. He won Mercosur cup with Vasco in 2000.He won the Brazilian silver ball award in that year for his performances in midfield. He played 111 league matches for Vasco and scored 24 goals.
In 2001, Juninho moved to France and joined Olympique Lyonnais. Juninho is certainly a Lyon legend for his part in their glorious era. Juninho helped Lyon to win unprecedented seven consecutive Ligue 1 titles from 2002-2008, in its history. He helped Lyon to win three consecutive Trophee Des Champions from 200-2004.He won Coupe de France with Lyon in 2008. Juninho became captain of Lyon in 2005.As a regular free kick taker for Lyon he scored more than 40 goals from free kicks. His free kick technique is unique and it is difficult to save for goalkeepers. Juninho has scored some stunning goals from free kicks against Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Werder Bremen, Ajaccio and many more teams for Lyon. He is the top scorer for Lyon in European club competitions, with 17 goals. Juninho won the Ligue 1 player of the year in 2006.Juninho helped Lyon to enter quarter finals of Champions league thrice. Juninho played 343 matches for Lyon and scored 100 goals.
