Lionel Messi is one of the greatest footballers in this current era. Argentinean legend Maradona himself termed Messi as his successor, which speaks volumes about this player. He is the UEFA club footballer of the year aswell as UEFA best forward for 2008/2009. Messi is creative, quick, and can shoot with great accuracy using his left foot. He has great dribbling ability, great ball control, which makes him so dangerous even when there are players to mark him.


Messi started his football journey with Grandoli as a kid. In 1995, Messi joined the youth system of Newell’s Old Boys. In 2000, Messi joined the youth system of Spanish club Barcelona after a trail, following their willingness to pay for the treatment of Messi’s deficiency in growth hormones. After playing well for various youth teams of Barcelona, he made it to the B team of Barcelona, in 2003.Messi amazingly scored 35 goals in mere 30 goals for Barcelona B.

After his impressive performances for Barcelona B, Messi got the chance to be a part of Barcelona’s senior team, in 2004. Messi became the youngest player to play in Spanish La liga, when he featured for Barcelona against RCD Espanyol, at the age of 17.He became the youngest player to score for Barcelona in la liga, when he scored against the Albacete Balompie club. Bojan Krkic broke both those records, in 2007.Messi was part of Barcelona team, which won consecutive league titles in 2005 and 2006. He was not able to play in the later stages of UEFA Champions league, which Barcelona won in 2006,due to injury.

Messi scored a hat trick to salvage Barcelona a draw in an El-Clasico match against bitter rivals Real Madrid during 2006/2007 season, which gave him a super star status among Barcelona followers. Messi was instrumental in Barcelona’s late challenge to Real Madrid for La Liga title, which lasted up to last match. He emulated two famous goals of Maradona in that season. Messi was the Argentinean player of the year in 2005 aswell as 2007.In 2007/2008 Messi was impressive. He helped Barcelona to reach the semi final of UEFA champions’ league. Messi finished as the runner up in FIFA world player of the year award, in 2008.Messi was at his best during the 2008/2009 season. Messi helped Barcelona to win La Liga, Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions league to complete a treble, which no other team in Spain ever did. Messi was the top scorer in UEFA Champions league with nine goals. Messi scored staggering 38 goals in 51 matches in that season. Messi won Spanish super cup with Barcelona in 2005,2006 and 2009.He-helped Barcelona to lift UEFA Super cup in 2009.Messi has scored 82 goals for Barcelona in 162 matches until now.


Messi started as a youth player at International stage for Argentina. Messi was the driving force behind the Argentina’s FIFA World Youth Championship triumph, in 2005.He got both Golden boot aswell as Golden Ball in that tournament, for his performances. Messi made his debut for Argentina while playing against Hungary as a substitute. Messi got red card for elbowing in matter of few minutes. Messi became the Argentina’s youngest player to appear in world cup, when he played against Serbia, as a substitute. Messi scored in that match to be the youngest player to score in world cup. Argentina went out of the world cup at quarterfinal stage. Messi played important role in Argentina’s runner up finish at 2007 Copa America. Messi was instrumental in Argentina’s gold medal win at 2008 summer Olympics. Messi has scored 12 goals in 38 matches for Argentina.
