Michael Ballack is one of the best footballers in this era. He has nice first touch and has vision to create with both his feet. He is quite capable of hitting the target from long distance and he is a good free kick taker. Ballack is so versatile that he can either to sit deep to defend and distribute ball or he can go on the offensive, like a true box-to-box midfielder. FIFA included him in the Top 100 living footballers in 2004.
Ballack started his football journey with the youth side of Chemnitzer FC, in 1983.After representing various youth sides of Chemnitzer, Ballack made his senior debut for them in 1995.In his first season, Chemnitzer faced relegation to Regionalliga from Bundesliga 2.He won Saxony cup with Chemnitzer, in 1996.He scored 10 goals for them in his second season. He played 49 matches for Chemnitzer in two seasons. Ballack moved to Bundesliga side Kaiserslautern, in 1997.Ballack won Bundesliga with Kaiserslautern, in 1998.He was a major player for Kaiserslautern during their impressive run in UEFA Champions league, which ended in Quarter final against Bayern Munich, in 1999.Ballack scored four goals in 55 matches for Kaiserslautern.
In 1999,ballack joined Bayer Leverkusen in a transfer deal worth 4.1 million Euros. He helped Bayer Leverkusen to finish runner-up in Bundesliga in 2000.In 2001/2002 season he was in great form. He scored 25 goals to help Bayer Leverkusen to finish runner-up in Bundesliga ,UEFA Champions league aswell as German cup. Ballack played 107 matches and scored 38 goals for Bayer Leverkusen in 3 seasons. Ballack won the UEFA club midfielder of the year in 2002.
Ballack joined the German giants Bayern Munich in a transfer deal worth 12.9 million Euros, in 2002. Ballack helped Bayern Munich to win Bundesliga in 2003,2005 and 2006. He helped Bayern Munich to win German cup in 2003,2005 and 2006.He won German League cup in 2004.However there was a belief that Ballack did not perform well for Munich in Champions league. Ballack played 154 matches for Bayern Munich and scored 58 goals for them.
In 2006,Ballack moved to England and joined Chelsea as a free agent. He helped Chelsea to finish strongly as runner-up in English Premier League in 2007 and 2008.He won FA cup with Chelsea in 2007 and 2009.He also won Football League cup in 2007 with them. Ballack was part of Germany squad, which played in Euro 2000.In 2002 world cup, he played a major role in Germany’s march towards the final. Due to suspension, he missed out the final match, which Germany lost to Brazil. He scored two goals in that tournament. Ballack became the captain of Germany after the Euro 2004.He helped Germany to finish third at 2006 World cup. He led Germany to a second place finish at 2008 Euro.
