Paolo Rossi is certainly one among top strikers in the world. Paolo Rossi proved everyone wrong by winning golden boot in 1982 world cup. He won world player of the year as well as the European footballer of the year awards in 1982 after his outstanding performances in the world cup.

Paolo Rossi was born on 22nd June 1977 at Santa Lucia in Italy. Paolo Rossi started his footballing journey with Juventus’ junior side. Rossi had problems with injuries during his initial seasons. However, Juventus sent him to Como on loan in 1976, for gaining experience before bracing senior side. At Como Rossi became a central forward from a winger. Juventus again sent him on loan, but this time to Serie B side Vicenza, where he played from 1976-1979.He helped Vicenza to get back to Serie A in 1977.He was the top scorer in Serie B, during that campaign. He scored sixty goals for Vicenza in just 94 matches. He continued his goal scoring form while playing in Serie A.24 goals in 1977/1978 season made him the top scorer in Serie A for that season. Juventus shared the ownership of Rossi with Vicenza during those times. Vicenza gave Italy’s record-breaking sum to Juventus to own Rossi. However, Vicenza had to rejoin Serie B following relegation in 1979.Following the relegation, Vicenza sent Rossi to Perugia on loan. He scored 13 goals for Perugia in 28 goals. During his time in Perugia, he had to face tough situations, as there were accusations regarding involvement of Rossi in a betting scandal named Totonero. He maintained that he was innocent. However, he got two-year ban for his involvement.

He rejoined Juventus in 1982.he won scudetto with Juventus. He won the European cup winners’  cup and European super cup in 1984. He won European cup in 1985 with Juventus. He scored 24 goals for Juventus during his second stint with them. He joined AC Milan in 1985, where he was not able to reproduce his talents. He finished his career with Hellas Verona in 1987.Injuries harmed Paolo Rossi a lot as he appeared around 251 matches only during his club career and scored 103 goals.

Paolo Rossi got the selection to represent Italy in 1978 world cup after string of great performances in Serie A. Rossi wrote his name in the record books after his stunning performances in 1982 world cup. Rossi came back to football after two-year ban. Everyone was sceptical about his effectiveness. In the initial group stage matches, he was clearly ineffective. However, Italian coach kept faith in him. However, things changed when Rossi scored a hat trick against the mighty Brazil to lead Italy to the semi finals with a 3-2 win. In semi-final against Poland, he scored two goals and Italy defeated them comfortably to reach final. In final Italy won 3-0 against the West Germany. Rossi scored a goal in that match to take his world cup goal tally to six. It effectively won him the golden boot .He scored 20 goals for Italy in 48 international matches. People will remember Rossi among great Italian football team players for his exploits in 1982 world cup.
