Roy Keane is a Manchester united legend. He is the greatest among all time Irish football team players. Roy Keane is a born leader. Keane was a hard tackling and uncompromising midfielder with great vision.

Roy Maurice Keane was born at Cork in Ireland on 19th August 1971.His footballing journey started with youth side of his native club Rock mount AFC at an age of eight. He played for various youth squads of Rock Mount AFC for about 10 seasons. In 1989, he moved to Cobh Ramblers a semi –professional Irish first division team. He played for both the senior team as well as their youth team at same time. His lucky break came when scouts of an English first division team Nottingham Forest spotted him during Dublin Youth cup.

 Nottingham Forest signed him up in 1990 for just £47,000. Initially Keane played for the forest’s under-21 team. Nottingham forest lost FA cup final to Tottenham Hotspur and League cup final, to Manchester United in consecutive seasons. In 1993, despite Roy Keane’s gritty performances, Nottingham forest faced relegation. Fans voted him as the player of the season. He played 114 matches for Nottingham forest and scored 22 goals.

After Nottingham’s relegation, Roy Keane moved to Manchester United for 3.75 million pounds, which was record transfer deal in England in that era. He won his first silverware when Manchester united lifted premier league and FA cup in 1993/1994 season. Roy Keane won premier league as well as FA cup that season with Manchester united that season. However, united lost the UEFA Champions league semi-finals to Borussia Dortmund.

Roy Keane became the captain of Manchester united in 1997.Injury forced him out of the season for most of the period.1998/1999 season was the best ever for both Manchester united and Roy Keane as they lifted three trophies including FA Cup, Premier League as well as UEFA Champions League. He produced a true captain’s performance against Juventus in Champions League Semi-final with a goal, which charged united to a 3-2 win. He missed out the final due to suspension. He scored a goal to clinch intercontinental cup for United in 1999.In 2000, United won Premier League again. He was involved in on field as well as off field controversies. His foul against Alf –Inge Haland brought trouble as he got three-match suspension and fine in 2001.Later in 2002, he had to pay £150000 and had to undergo 5-match suspension for admitting his intention regarding that foul. In 2003, he won premier league again with United. He was the most successful Manchester united captain as he led united to nine trophies. He had record number of red cards in English football, 13 of them.

After 12 and half years association with United, he moved to Celtic in 2005 after mutual consent with United’s management. He won Scottish premier league as well as Scottish league cup in 2006.He retired from football in 2006.

Roy Keane started his international career for Ireland while playing against turkey under-21s in 1991.he had problems with team management throughout his international career. He played in 1994 world cup and was their best player. Ireland went out of the tournament in second round. He helped Ireland to qualify for 2002 world cup. However, he walked out of Irish team during 2002 world cup following arguments with manager. He later played some matches during 2006 world cup qualifiers. After failing to qualify for world cup, he quit international football.

After retiring from playing career, Keane became a Manager. He managed Sunderland from 2006 to 2008.He led them to championship title in 2007 and they were promoted to premier league. He kept them in premier league in 2007/2008 season. However, he walked away from Sunderland in the wake of poor performances and differences with the owner in December 2008.He is Managing Ipswich Town, a championship club in England.
