Nakamura is one of the top Asian footballers who made mark in the European leagues. He is good playmaker with great vision to provide exquisite passes and assists. He can take stunning free kicks. He is very effective when plays behind the strikers. He was an important player in the Japanese teams, which won Asia cups in 2000 aswell as 2004.

Nakamura played for youth team of Misono FC at a very young age. He joined Nissan F.C.Junior Youth, in 1991.He left them to join Toko Gakuen High School, in 1994.His big break in Japanese football came when J-League club Yokohama Marinos signed him up, in 1997.He played his first match for Yokohama while playing against the Gamba Osaka club. Nakamura scored 18 goals for them during the first three seasons. He helped Yokohama to win the first stage of J-League in 2000.He won the J-League cup with Yokohama in 2001.He made it to the “Best Eleven of J-League in 1999 and 2000.He won the Most Valuable Player of J-League during 2000.Nakamura played 176 matches for Yokohama and scored 38 goals.

Nakamura moved to Italy and joined Serie A side Reggina, in 2005.Nakamura helped them to remain in Serie A in all the three seasons, in which he was with them. He had some injury problem during his time in Italy. He played 87 matches for Reggina and scored 12 goals.

In 2005, Nakamura moved to Scotland and joined Celtic. Nakamura made his debut for Celtic while playing against Dundee United. He was a driving force for Celtic during his stint with them. He helped Celtic to win the Scottish Premier League aswell as Scottish League cup, in 2006.He helped Celtic to enter the knock out stage of UEFA Champions league, with a stunning winner against Manchester United, in a group match during 2006/2007 season. He scored the goal of the season in Scotland against Dundee United. He helped Celtic to retain their Scottish Premier League title, with his goal in the Celtic’s final league match. He won Scottish cup with Celtic in 2007.Nakamura was the Celtic Player of the year in 2007.He again helped Celtic to win the Scottish Premier League in 2008.His won Scottish League cup with Celtic, in 2009.Nakamura played 163 matches for Celtic and scored 33 goals. In June 2009, Nakamura left Celtic to join Spanish La Liga side Espanyol.

Nakamura played for Japan Under-19 team initially. He was part of Japanese Under-23 team, which entered the FIFA World Youth championship in 1997.He was part of the Japanese youth team, which went out of 2000 summer Olympics, at the quarterfinal stage. Nakamura played his first match for Japan’s senior side, while playing against Singapore in 2000.Due to injury he did not feature in the squad for 2002 world cup. He helped Japan to win AFC Asian cups in 2004 and 2006.He represented Japan in Confederations cups held in 2004 and 2006.He helped Japan to qualify for 2006 world cup. He scored one goal against Australia, at 2006 world cup. He played for Japan in 2007 AFC Asian cup. He is an important player for Japan in the 2010 world cup qualification matches. Nakamura has scored 23 goals for Japan in 87 matches.
