Xabi Alonso is one of the top playmakers in football in this current era. Xabi Alonso is now a Real Madrid player, after moving from Liverpool for £30 million. He plays for Spain at International level. He was a member of Spain, which won Euro 2008. Alonso is good at scoring stunning long-range goals. He scored two stunning goals from his own half against Luton town in FA cup match and Newcastle united in a premier league match.

Xabi Alonso Olano was born on 25th November 1981 at Tolosa in Spain. Alonso started his football journey with Antiguoko’s youth side. Real Sociedad’s scouts spotted him and they inducted him in their youth side. He played for Real Sociedad’s reserves before making it to their senior side in 1999.at the age of 18, Alonso made his senior debut for Sociedad while playing against Logrones CF. Sociedad sent Alonso on loan to Segunda club SD Eibar, in 2000. Sociedad coach John Toshack made Alonso the club captain at the age of 19 in 2001 .Xabi Alonso led Sociedad to a remarkable recovery from relegation zone to 14th place. In 2002/2003 season, he led Sociedad to second position in La Liga, after being at top for long periods. Sociedad gathered highest number of points in la liga in their history, that season. They qualified for UEFA Champions league. In 2003/2004 season, Sociedad finished 15th in the la liga and exited from Champions League in knock out stages. He played over 130 matches for Real Sociedad during his stint with them.

In 2004, Liverpool bought him up for £10.7 million. He made his premier league debut during a match against Bolton Wanderers. Alonso scored goal against Fulham to open his account for Liverpool. He missed three months of action due to injury. Alonso was instrumental in Liverpool’s 2005 UEFA Champions league win. In the final against Milan, he scored from the penalty spot to level the score 3-3, after being down 3-0 in the first half. Liverpool won the match on penalties. Alonso won European Super cup in 2005, with Liverpool. In 2006, he won FA cup with Liverpool. He scored a stunning goal against Luton Town during an FA cup match. In the final Gerrard scored the levelling goal from Alonso’s free kick. Liverpool made it to the knockout stage of Champions league as well.In2006/2007 season, he helped Liverpool to reach final of UEFA Champions league. During 2007 summer, Liverpool Manager Rafa Benitez tried to sell him for buying Gareth Barry. However, it did not happen and Alonso went on to produce a marvellous season for Liverpool. Liverpool finished second in premier league in 2009.Liverpool went out from Champions league in quarterfinal stage. Alonso played 43 matches during the season and scored five goals. Alonso left Liverpool to join real Madrid after a long protracted transfer saga in august 2009.

Alonso started his international career for Spain while he represented Spanish under-18 team in 2000.He later played for Spanish under-21 team between 2002 and 2003.He made his debut for senior Spanish team in 2003 while playing against Ecuador. He has played 61 matches for Spain and scored five goals for them. Alonso represented Spain at 2004 as well as 2006 Euro cup. In 2004 euro, he played two matches. Alonso scored his first International goal while playing against Ukraine at 2006 world cup. Spain went out of world cup at knock out stage. He was a part of the team, which won Euro 2008, and he mainly played as substitute. He captained Spain against Greece in that tournament. He played for Spain at Confederations cup 2009 and they finished as third placed team.
